Arvato has supported Slough Borough Council in achieving a high revenue collections rate for 2015/16:
Slough Borough Council has issued a vote of thanks to last year’s council tax and business rate payers.
For the second consecutive year in at least the past six, the council tax collection rate – for the financial year 2015/16 – topped 96 percent, thanks to residents paying the right amount at the right time.
The council tax collection rate was 96.52 percent – an increase of 0.5 percent on 2014/15.
Business rate collection was also up, with 97.12 percent collected – an increase of 0.35 percent on 2014/15.
This means the council has collected an additional £4m since last year.
Councillor Sohail Munawar, leader of the council, said: ‘We’d like to thank everyone who made it a priority to pay their council tax or business rates on time last year, despite difficult times.
‘With cuts from government, we’re relying more heavily than ever on a good collection rate to keep the council and its services financially secure. That is why we’ve increased our efforts in recent years to collect all the tax owed to us, taking a firm but fair approach.
‘While I’m pleased to see our efforts paying off, I’m also conscious that it’s not been easy for a lot of people. So we’ve been providing help and support whenever we can – offering council tax support, issuing hardship payments and ensuring people are receiving benefits they’re entitled to.
‘That work is on-going and I urge anyone who is having difficulty paying to get in touch, rather than suffering in silence. There are things we can do to help.’
Slough Borough Council works with its transactional services provider, Arvato, to take action quickly when payments are missed, which helps prevent people from falling too far behind with payments and incurring extra charges such as court fees.
In recent years the council and Arvato have also increased the speed reminder letters are sent and followed up.
