Expert commentary from Debbie Nolan, business development director, CRM and public sector, Arvato UK & Ireland, is included in the March issue of HR Magazine. The discussion forms part of a special report on self-service HR software, which focuses on the huge potential it has for saving time and resource in HR departments.
Debbie discusses the role Arvato played in integrating HR Direct – a 24-hour online portal – across East Cheshire NHS Trust in order to free up the HR team to focus on more complex, strategic work, while giving employees greater autonomy over their HR information
Debbie explained that HR Direct has been a big success since its inception in 2013: “The system has substantially reduced the HR team’s administrative workload by cutting calls to the helpdesk by 25 per cent. Additionally, the new system has helped to reduce external legal costs through enabling 70 per cent of employee relations case calls to be resolved at first contact.”
She added: “The platform provides the Trust’s 3,500 staff access to all policies, procedures, guidelines and frequently asked questions – from information on pay and staff welfare to induction materials and employee relations. This allows them to quickly solve simple queries themselves. Without having to heavily rely on the HR team to provide daily support on a working hour’s basis, employees and line management can now handle their own activities remotely and around the clock, allowing them to spend more time on front line priorities, such as patient care.”
HR Direct now serves a total of 34,000 users across eight UK health organisations, including Health Education England and NHS National Services Scotland.
