Neath Port Talbot Council and Arvato to drive automation excellence

We are working with Neath Port Talbot Council in South Wales to automate part of the authority’s back-office, to transform back-office processes and deliver new efficiencies.

The arrangement will see Arvato roll out its ProcessAutomate solution, which combines public sector process expertise with robotic process automation (RPA) technology, across the authority’s human resources service.

RPA works by using software to create an agile, virtual workforce able to mimic human processing of repetitive, labour-intensive tasks. It follows rule-based business processes and interacts with systems in the same way that people do, meaning it can free-up employees to focus on more critical work and deliver significant efficiency improvements.

The Council is expected to reduce the cost per transaction by up to 95 per cent, by using RPA to improve the accuracy of its operations and save time spent on updating employee information and processing Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) requests and returns. It currently manually handles over 7,000 of these processes every year.

This arrangement will play an important role in helping to deliver the council’s digital strategy, ‘Smart & Connected’.

During the initial implementation, Arvato’s DBS solutions have delivered a cost-per-process reduction from £1.50 to £0.10 on DBS requests and £1.11 to £0.05 on DBS returns, with the cost of updating an employee file being reduced from £1.11 to £0.15.

Arvato’s star apprentice shares career insights with BBC Bitesize

Vikas Khan, our recruitment apprentice, has been featured on BBC Bitesize to help inspire the next generation of school leavers to consider an apprenticeship to kick-start their careers.

Based at our UK headquarters in Slough, Vikas caught the BBC’s eye after being named the 2018 South West ‘Intermediate Apprentice of the Year’ in the regional finals of last year’s National Apprenticeship Awards (NAA). In his interview, he explains what inspired him to begin the programme and talks about what he loves about his job.

Vikas assumed recruitment account management responsibilities for one of the company’s key automotive clients after just six months of his year-long, NVQ Level 2 programme has now secured a full time role with one of our major clients.

Vikas said, “When I left school, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, I just knew that higher education wasn’t for me. Doing an apprenticeship provided me with an alternative route where I was able to gain practical skills and experience on the job. It’s great to have my story featured on the BBC Bitesize website and I hope it demonstrates to other people in my position that there are many different routes available to help them achieve their dream roles.”

Alongside his success at the National Apprenticeship Awards, Vikas also scooped the accolade for ‘Best Young Ambassador Apprentice’ at the 2018 Berkshire Apprenticeship Awards last November. The judges were impressed by his commitment to Arvato’s charity initiatives, organising World Book Day and Diversity Day events that have raised over £1,500.

Arvato secures place on public sector technology framework to deliver digital transformation

We have been reappointed to the UK Government’s public sector technology framework, G-Cloud 11, to help deliver digital transformation and improve efficiency across departments.

The appointment will see Arvato supply a range of services including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) consultancy, support and migration services, data migration and Robotic Process Automation (RPA).

G-Cloud 11 launched in July and forms part of the government’s ongoing commitment to being a world leader in public sector digital transformation. It is designed to help public sector organisations access new technology solutions by giving them the freedom to quickly choose from a varied selection of quality and trusted suppliers.

Our ERP consultancy, support and migration services will see us work collaboratively with Government departments to implement cloud and on-premise ERP applications. The service can help deliver both large and small-scale projects, full end-to-end business processes or individual services, such as a managed payroll solution or BACS bureau service.

In addition to support services, our data migration offering, including data analysis, management and technical assistance, will enable departments to seamlessly transfer data from existing to new systems. RPA software, which follows rule-based business processes and mimics human interaction, can also be implemented in back-office environments to complete repetitive administrative tasks.

Our software offering is underpinned by our SAP certification, a best practice seal of approval which recognises high performance in platform implementation, quality management service levels and security. We are proud to be just one of two organisations in the UK to have received the accreditation, and we join an elite club of only 300 SAP-certified businesses across the world.

Arvato employees cycle and walk over 900 ‘Miles for Mind!’

During a two-day event over Summer, 184 of our employees tested their strength and stamina and got involved in a static bike and steps challenge to raise money for Mind, the UK based mental health charity.

Arvato hired stationary bikes for larger sites which included Chesterfield, Swansea, Slough Phoenix One, Warwick and Willerby, and steps trackers for smaller sites such as Slough Landmark Place, Farnborough and Maple Cross.

Tying in with Tour De France – the world’s biggest annual cycling event, employees aimed to collectively cycle and walk 2,200 miles, the overall distance of the Tour.

Our employees managed to achieve 955.5 miles over the two days, and whilst the total number of miles didn’t reach the target, it did exceed the distance it would take to cycle or walk to all nine sites, starting at Willerby and ending at Farnborough – which is 720 miles and would take 63 hours to cycle and 200 hours to walk!

Despite it being the hottest days of the year so far, employees threw everything into the challenge whilst raising over £670.00 for Mind, a charity which provides advice and support to empower people experiencing a mental health challenge. Employees also got involved by holding bake sales and fuelling our athletes with sweet treats.

Rockie Butteling, Training and Quality Specialist, Arvato CRM Solutions UK, who contributed 19 miles within two 30 minutes’ slots said, “I really enjoyed getting involved in Miles for Mind. There was a real buzz as colleagues cheered each other on and there was also some friendly competition. The event was a good opportunity to get to know people from other teams – and it was so nice to see that, no matter whether you’re fast or slow, we’re all one team, aiming for one goal!”

All employees who participated were automatically entered into a prize draw to win a £50 Virgin Experience Day voucher on each site. Congratulations to all of the winners and thank you to the participants for embracing the challenge and getting stuck in!
