Employees focus on their health and wellbeing in Arvato’s ‘Miles for Mind’ challenge

Throughout July, employees from across Arvato CRM Solutions signed up to this years ‘Miles for Mind’ charity challenge, in the spirit of the 2020 Olympics.

Despite the Olympics not taking place this year, we wanted to run an activity that all of our employees could have the opportunity to get involved in. It wasn’t about who was the fastest, who exercised the most, or where they were based in the UK, it was about making a conscious effort to improve our own health and wellbeing, whilst raising awareness and donations to support Mind, the mental health charity.

The ‘Miles for Mind’ challenge was launched at the beginning of July, and across the four weeks, 60 employees collectively achieved 5,288 miles from walking, running or cycling, to contribute to the cause.

As well as running this challenge to motivate employees to improve their fitness, in turn having a positive impact on their health and wellbeing, it was also a great opportunity for us to raise some money for Mind as one of our chosen charities of the year. We chose Mind as the charity for this activity as physical exercise is scientifically proven to improve your mental health and wellbeing. As a result of this challenge, we have pushed our combined charity total for Mind over £5,700 in the last 12 months.

As this challenge was well-received by employees, we have kept the fitness group going and made it a permanent feature on our intranet to create a community where colleagues can engage, communicate and motivate each another around exercise – and not surprisingly create some healthy competition!

Jacqueline Yates, Arvato CRM Solutions, commented, “Having a few challenges like ‘Miles for Mind’ during lockdown has really helped with my motivation. I lacked enthusiasm for running at the beginning of May and although I’ve run for many years, I went from running daily to probably twice a week and not very far at that! I’m glad to be back on track again now and this challenge really helped with that.”
