Arvato has delivered digital transformation projects for the Department for Transport (DfT) which have been featured in the new Government Shared Services (GSS) Strategy. The publication evidences the success of the first two years of the programme.
The new report details the achievements made since the GSS strategy was first published in January 2018, and sets out a series of next steps to deliver increased efficiencies and drive productivity for civil servants across central government.
Arvato has designed and implemented FIORI – a SAP programme – to provide employees at the DfT and its executive agencies with a more intuitive, user-friendly interface to conduct daily administrative tasks.
Following a successful trial on HR self-service functions, such as booking annual leave, accessing documentation and changing details, the company is now set to roll the interface out across finance, procurement and payroll.
The strategy also highlights Arvato’s work with robotic process automation (RPA), which has already been integrated into the delivery of business processes at its shared services centre, where it provides HR, payroll, finance and procurement services for 19,000 civil servants across the UK. Currently RPA supports the completion of employee services and finance transactions, and will shortly go live within customer support and reporting.
As part of the future programme, the business will expand the number of automated back-office processes at the centre, which will increase the pace and compliance of service delivery. RPA also has the potential to create cost savings of up to 95 per cent, so allowing clients and suppliers to focus on additional value-added tasks.
A shift to cloud-based infrastructure forms another key part of the strategy and in a partnership with Mobilise, Arvato will transfer the DfT’s two existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems on to a cloud-hosted technology platform. The existing data centre operations will transition from traditional physical infrastructure to the public cloud, which will deliver significant cashable savings.
